Chamber Choir Ireland join forces, once again, with the Irish Chamber Orchestra to perform Mendelssohn’s rousing Second Symphony - Lobgesang (Hymn of praise) in a concert that also features the orchestra performing Weber’s dramatic Der Freischütz overture.
Mendelssohn’s Second Symphony was close to his heart and with its stately grandeur and religiosity, plus its sheer magnitude –an anthem – it is one of his most impressive works. Celebrating the Reformation, it attempted to break down the barriers between concert music and the church. Influenced by Bach, it ranks as his most ambitious symphonic achievement and brings ICO’s tribute to Mendelssohn to a rousing conclusion.
