Paul Hillier, Artistic Director of Chamber Choir Ireland, discusses the upcoming tour of The Orthodox Spirit, a glorious programme of Russian Orthodox Church Music from the 17th-21st centuries. Works include Rachmaninov’s Vespers, Stravinsky’s Three Sacred Pieces and an Irish premiere of Arvo Párt’s Kleine Litanei.

The Orthodox Spirit starts with the Irish premiere of Arvo Pärt’s Kleine Litanei, which pays homage to a great theologian and thinker of the Early Middle Ages, the Irish Benedictine monk St Virgil. This unique recital continues with a selection of Russian Orthodox Church Music from the 17th to the 21st centuries. Chamber Choir Ireland visit the Russian masters and inhabit the world of Church Slavonic with extracts from Rachmaninov’s All-Night Vigil, and works by Bortniansky, Stravinsky and more.
